When Do You Ovulate?

Most women have about a twenty eight day menstrual cycle. Ovulation occurs around day fourteen.

Start counting the days of your cycle when menstrual bleeding begins. The first day of your period is day one of your cycle.

If your cycle is irregular, shorter or longer than twenty eight days, then you may get a more accurate ovulation prediction by counting back fourteen days before the first day of your period. The time between ovulation and menstrual bleeding is almost always fourteen days, regardless of the length of your cycle.

There are a number of treatments that can help you ovulate, so you should begin treatment with an infertility specialist if you suspect that you are not ovulating regularly.

Symptoms Of Ovulation

If you’re planning on getting pregnant soon, it is important for you to know the symptoms of ovulation, as this will help you identify when you are most fertile.   Knowing exactly when you are ovulating is extremely beneficial for timing intercourse, and shortening the time it takes you to conceive.

Here’s what you need to look out for:

  • A change in cervical mucus, with more profuse secretions resembling egg-whites
  • An increase in sex drive
  • A lingering pain around one or both ovaries
